Germany / Eon Energy from Waste AG does not expect overcapacities in the incineration market
According to Jörg Zunft, member of the board of Eon Energy from Waste AG (EEW), there will be no overcapacities in the incineration market in the medium term. Supply and demand will adjust due to a capacity reduction by closing old facilities. 16 per cent of all plants that are currently in operation went on line before 1980 and will be inspected, at the latest, after the expiration of their current municipal supply contracts. EEW expects an incineration capacity of 24.2 million tons in 2012 and a waste accumulation of 24.5 million tons. At present, the incineration capacity is 23 million tons of waste, including RDF plants. Furthermore, Zunft stressed that the illegal deposition of waste, which he estimates to amount to three million tons, has a considerable influence on the current market situation.
