USA / Hawaii: Covanta will expand waste-to-energy plant
Covanta Holding Corp. is going to expand the H-POWER waste-to-energy plant in Honolulu (Hawaii) by adding a third line. The USD 302 million expansion will expand the plant’s capacity by 900 tons of nonhazardous municipal solid waste per day, yielding 25 to 30 megawatts of electricity. The expansion is expected to be completed in late 2011 or early 2012. The facility is owned by Honolulu and is operated by Covanta Honolulu Resource Recovery Venture.
